Chief Architect Full Time

Our client, a leading organisation in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Chief Architect for a contract position. This role requires a multi-disciplined architect with a strong background in Information, Cyber, and IT architecture, particularly within the defence industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understanding required technical capabilities and timelines for large-scale Information Systems delivery programmes.
• Providing a leadership role within the client-side team and working with functional leads to develop and implement organisational capability delivery increments.
• Identifying opportunities to trial new working methods with delivery project teams and feeding lessons learned into future approaches.
• Supporting Army HQ, Defence Digital, and the Army end customer by aligning actions with broader transformation activities.
• Identifying required skills to sustain progress, supporting recruitment, and informing future capability delivery vehicles.
• Supporting effective technical decision-making and presenting clear pathways to stakeholders.
• Driving improvements in key delivery programmes to be architecturally led and benefiting from system of systems and service thinking.

Job Requirements:

• Understanding of Deployed and Tactical Military Domains such as ISTAR, Communications and Information Systems (CIS), and Cyber.
• Awareness of relevant technology markets.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create influence and build constructive relationships with clients.
• Excellent knowledge of Defence Digital & Military customers’ processes, including Army’s Intelligence, Planning, and Targeting Cycles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to summarise and deliver concise technical information and apply appropriate data visualisation techniques.
• Experience within one or more MOD environments (Air, Land, Maritime, C4ISR).
• Innovative thinker with a proven track record in enterprise architecture, cost-saving identification, and reducing technical debt.
• Knowledge of Military Communications and Information Systems (CIS), and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems.
• Understanding of the military customer and defence procurement processes.
• Experience in ITIL application within the MOD domain.
• Knowledge of Defence Digital Common Approach to Architecture (CAA) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) (Desirable).
• Ability to identify, assess, and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
• Broad knowledge of enterprise-scale ICT delivery mechanisms and software technologies, including Application Hosting, Big Data, DevOps, and Virtualised Cloud Services.
• Good awareness of safety and security management practices in the MOD domain.
• Hands-on experience in configuration management and baseline development through the lifecycle of complex programmes.
