What’s the job?
The Head of Platform Engineering will ensure cloud infrastructure is highly available, reliable, performs, and is built with security in each layer; from the application to the infrastructure it sits on. You will drive the business forward and push the boundaries of what technology can do now and what it can do in the future.
With a cloud-first strategy, you will build a model that enables all parts of the business to demonstrate the cloud infrastructure you build continuously and automatically. You need to make sure you support the needs of partners in terms of scalability, security, and capacity planning.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
Understanding and delivering site reliability is essential for the role. Making sure the products we build are production-ready so that inter-service dependencies are understood, monitoring and operational support are in place, and performance in terms of availability, latency, and efficiency. The reliability of a product operating in production is key as we live in a 24-hour online world.
You will need to build an effective DevSecOps capability by pushing security into the entire product life cycle and raising awareness across the Kingfisher estate on cybersecurity and mitigations and controls. Understanding and using the right security tools, enabling compliance and best practice is a fundamental requirement.
A key responsibility is building the right development tooling to enable our development teams to deliver quickly. Creating pipelines and using automation through infrastructure as code will be crucial to getting working software released quickly and safely.
Whilst building a DevOps culture you need to empower the wider business in using cloud technologies and services. Mentoring and coaching teams is vital as well as technical leadership.
