WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our Dundee office.

Core purpose of the role

In your role as Solutions Architect, you ll be responsible for solutions design and architecture of several projects within multiple programmes and spawning multiple applications, technology stacks and organisational boundaries.

Known as the subject matter expert in this area. Consistent excellence in applying this competency across multiple projects and/or organisations. Provides advice and guidance, problem-solving and answers questions across all areas of this competency and the field where the competency is used. Designs processes and solutions in this area from base principles and without external support. Undertakes the most complex evaluations and decisions for the company, and provides commercial and regulatory sign-off for decisions in this area. Engages externally as a recognised expert in this field. In the top 10% of people industry-wide in this area. Fosters a greater understanding across this competency internally and externally.

What you’ll be involved in:

• Engage with the Projects & Change team to ensure solutions remain aligned with the company goals and business requirements
• Technically accountable and responsible for the end-to-end solution design
• Ensure solutions are in line with industry standards and best practices
• Producing technical design documentation and schematics to detail the solution
• Participate in the definition and documentation of application development standards
• Integrate company systems with those of suppliers and partners
• Hand-on working on proof-of-concept (POC) projects
• Providing the input for constantly improving the security, scalability, extensibility, reliability, and performance of all implementations
• Continuously review and impact assess technical deliverables and plans
• Be the escalation point for any critical technical design issues on the project
• Resolving the production issues with application coding or design
• Demonstrate a robust approach to estimating and planning IT projects including a strong commercial awareness and ways of successfully handling business risk
• Elicit and interpret requirements, develop functional/non-functional specifications, and work with domain specific architects and expert designers to generate technical specifications which can be delivered
• Mentor junior developers / architects, provide technical guidance and promote development
• Liaise with the testing function to help deliver quality product into production.

Essential skills and experience:

• At least ten years’ experience as a Solutions or Technical Architect across a large programme of work
• Experience as a Technical Architect within Financial Services or Banking
• Experience of designing multi-tier and complex architectures, using various application software and hardware components
• Experience of solution design for 24×7 applications handling high transaction throughout and high data volumes
• Experience of conceptual, logical and physical data modelling
• Excellent understanding of cloud based infrastructure hosting and software deployment
• Excellent understanding of Cybersecurity
• Excellent communication skills and experience with dealing with senior business stakeholders
• Working hands on experience of complete Microsoft stack and frameworks
• Web development stacks (React, MVC, Javascript frameworks, SPA, Ajax, Jquery, CSS)
• Single Sign On (SAML, OpenIDConnect, JWT)
• Azure technology stack
• REST APIs
