You’ll join a cross-functional team of Software Engineers, Product Managers and Designers, all collaborating together with the wider business to achieve impactful product outcomes.

This role

You’ll be stepping into our first VP Engineering position, playing a critical role in owning and leading on the growth of our product, people & organisation.

This is an opportunity to work alongside our CEO to have a long-standing impact on our ways of working, product & technical strategy, team growth and the success of engineering.

From day one, you will be accountable for leading the build and delivery of the engineering strategy and roadmap, helping to solve complex technical and organisational challenges that will shape the future of Risk Ledger. As an experienced, product-minded senior leader, you will ultimately be responsible for scaling and maturing our existing engineering function.

As a passionate people manager, you’ll also foster an environment that enables engineers to succeed and perform at their best, both individually and collectively. Initially, you’ll support them in reaching their full potential and lead the team in their day-to-day execution to achieve product & engineering goals. As we scale engineering capability, you’ll look to bring in additional management expertise to allow you to focus on leading the function and thinking ahead.

Collaboration will be key to your success, and you will build strong, trusting relationships within product & engineering and with other key people and leaders across the business.

This role will be pivotal to scaling Engineering capability, enabling Risk Ledger to achieve its ambitious goals. You will have the chance to draw on extensive past experience whilst having an exciting opportunity to carve out new and innovative ways to contribute, allowing true ownership of impact.

In the role you will;

• Have ultimate accountability for engineering strategy and execution whilst contributing to product strategy and longer-term vision. Bringing your deep experience to the table to shape a multi-faceted engineering strategy aligned to our product strategy, delivering the highest impact for our customers, balanced with maturing Risk Ledger’s engineering capability
• Build & own the engineering roadmap. Helping to identify, validate and execute on big, game-changing opportunities for our product, building on our current vision to revolutionise supply chain security
• Own and execute on engineering organisational design. Ensuring we have a clear, aligned vision for engineering capability and a plan as to how we’ll successfully and sustainably scale including short and long-term talent and capacity planning
• Support, coach & develop engineers initially whilst looking to scale management capability within the team. Ensuring individual engineers feel valued and happy, giving them opportunities to grow and putting them on a path to achieving their goals. Finding the best, future-fit management talent as teams grow.
• Drive team health & productivity. By continuously seeking opportunities for improvement, evolving our ways of working and removing blockers to achieving the highest quality outcomes
• Lead from the front. By asking the right questions at the right time, challenging assumptions, encouraging learning and driving positive impact through influence & respect both within the team and across the organisation, alongside other leaders
• Steer day-to-day execution. Through overseeing of team planning, in-flight work, technical design and prioritisation of opportunities, alongside the Product Manager
• Grow the Engineering function. You’ll hire new engineers into the team with the necessary skills to meet our goals, whilst holding a high bar for excellence
• Have an impact. We’re a growing startup – so expect to have a hand in everything from product decisions to company strategy

You’ll have;

• Many years of proven experience as a Senior Engineering Leader (VP-level), working closely with product leadership & the executive team, responsible for a high-performing engineering function with either single or multi-disciplinary teams (ideally within a post-Series A startup)
• Solid experience building and owning execution of engineering strategy and planning whilst also overseeing day-to-day execution and delivery for a complex product, ideally B2B
• Experience working in a cross-functional, product-led environment, contributing to product vision and strategy within startup(s) at a similar stage of growth.
• A deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities of scaling engineering capability and how to effectively navigate these.
• An innate sense of curiosity, with a keen interest in the product that your team are developing and in the operations of the wider business
• A truly passionate people-person with extensive experience managing the development and performance of a diverse team of managers and software engineers in all aspects.
• A natural desire to support and nurture others, and uncover ways to help them achieve their career goals both in the short and long term
• Ideally, you will have progressed in your early career from a senior-level software engineer to a senior leader with a deep appreciation for how a high performing software engineering team would operate
• A confident, driven senior leader who brings energy and motivation to the team, helping to move at pace and deliver genuine value to customers through our ambitious roadmap
• High EQ and ability to lead from the front on all behavioural aspects, helping to set an unparalleled standard for ‘how’ a high-performing engineering function should operate
