This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future for Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking an Apprentice IT Developer to join our team. If you have an aptitude for investigation, problem-solving, and a keen interest in wide-ranging I.T. systems and technologies, you may be the person we are looking for.

You will study the BSc Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship with QA (in partnership with University of Roehampton) for a 4 year on the job learning programme. Modules include Software Engineering , Cyber Security, Cloud Solutions, profession practice and projects at work.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the IT team that provides a comprehensive support and development service to all members of staff across the Trust. If you are keen to work in a small friendly team of like-minded professionals then please apply now.

Responsible for the provision of specialist IT technical services to the Trust.

Develop and maintain applications and databases that may require the use of complex programming tools as instructed and guided by the Senior IT Developer.

To provide an IT technical support service to all users, this may require the identification and resolution of complex problems.

Create and agree system specifications with Trust staff when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Requires a very good working knowledge of object-oriented programming and must be fully conversant and have practical development experience using the standard toolsets available to the development team.

The post holder will be expected to develop applications which may involve the use of various development tools and may require complex algorithms and database designs. The post holder will need to understand and must be able to implement efficient data structures and optimise data search and retrieval methods.

Design, code, test, build and maintain Trust applications. It’s expected that the post holder will build, test, install and maintain applications on behalf of the Trust using a variety of programming and application development tools, which will include but will not be limited to the use of C#, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Newer JavaScript frameworks will be used also, Angular, React etc.

The role will involve the analysis of complex and often sensitive data with the databases and applications and therefore the Apprentice IT Developer must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with other members of the team, Trust staff and suppliers when necessary, regarding this information.

Manage access to IT systems ensuring that strong user authentication controls are in place at all times. In addition, protect Trust data by implementing data security mechanisms that require authentication of the user before data access is permitted.

Undertake and where necessary lead on application testing ensuring that all application components and associated databases perform as expected and deliver the expected results.

Undertake and where necessary lead on application functional testing and where necessary update systems to reflect the needs.

The post holder will be expected to provide advice, support and guidance to Trust staff using the applications developed by the team on an on-going basis.

• 2 A-levels or Level 3 Apprenticeship or BTEC Extended Diploma in a similar subject
• GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above (or equivalent)
