We are looking for someone who either has pre-existing experience of working as an Assistant Project Manager, or someone who has worked in a Project Management environment (or similar) and is looking for a step into becoming an Assistant Project Manager.

Thales SIX (Naval) are looking to recruit an Assistant Project Manager to join our integrated communications team.

You will be responsible for providing assistance to Project Managers delivering integrated communications equipment and systems to the Royal Navy. This role will be required to support the Project Manager and the project team in delivering the overall objectives of the project to the business and customer.

This role requires professional project management capabilities to be applied – giving rigour to change control, commercial awareness and stakeholder management together with the successful management of the relationship with internal and external customers.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held; if not currently held it is expected that the post holder will undergo SC Clearance, please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

You will Support the Project Managers to:

• Deliver key results and performance metrics within projects, including order intake, sales, gross margin and cash
• Creation of the initial Project Plan during the bid or “Demand” phase of the lifecycle through requirement capture, work definition, estimating and scheduling that will include all Milestones, activities, resources and any other feature that will require to be delivered
• Project Governance (the Gate and Stage Processes) over the bid and project delivery activities to ensure project, technical, procurement and support processes are applied and are effective in controlling risks
• Ensure all business planning and reporting is published in accordance with Business directives e.g. Project Management reviews (PMR), Business Operations Report (BOR) and On Time Delivery (OTD)
• Drive Quality, Cost & Delivery performance through close working with other functions
• Manage all project stakeholders; ensuring strong communications are established and maintained
• Ensure that members of the project team are actively managing Risk and Opportunities, and have a robust Project Management Plan
• Ensure data integrity of all project information including financials and schedule. Use the Oracle and Primavera toolset to hold all financial, schedule and resource information
• The role will also involve occasional ad-hoc duties that are not listed above but are necessary to respond to the needs of the business. These ad-hoc duties will be consistent with the nature of a management position within Thales

Skills and Experience:

• It would be beneficial but not essential to have IPMA Level D professional accreditation or an equivalent Association for Project Management (APM) qualification or Prince 2. If not currently held the candidate should have a willingness to study for an equivalent qualification while performing the role.

• You should have an awareness of generic processes and techniques used to schedule project activities (for example; Work Breakdown Structure, Organisational Breakdown Structure, milestones, dependencies, Earned Value Management).

• Experience and understanding of the Project Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management).
• Experience and knowledge of the project life cycle for complex projects through delivery of Development, Implementation, Closure and Support activity.
• Experience at building and managing stakeholder relationships across customers, partners, suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Possess excellent communication and influencing skills
• Have experience working autonomously and managing your own deliverables without the requirement of regular supervision
