Network Infrastructure Engineer – Inside IR35

Contract Term: Until 29/03/24 with potential for extension

Contracting Authority: Cabinet Office

Location: Hybrid – London 2-3 days per week

The Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister and ensures the effective running of government. It is also the corporate headquarters for government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and takes the lead in certain critical policy areas.

We are the Cabinet Office’s cyber security team, and our mission is to secure the department against cyber threats. We protect our nationwide internal IT infrastructure, and high-profile citizen-facing digital services.

As a Network Infrastructure Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:

• Establish and deploy a robust cyber security risk management framework for the Cabinet Office, which will inform risk appetite, risk decision taking and future investment prioritisation.
• Expand the capacity of existing centrally deployed cyber security services and establish new capability to meet demand and drive down risk across the Cabinet Office.
• Work with security architects and security analysts to identify gaps in protective monitoring.
• Configure and manage existing solutions, and design and deploy new solutions, to send logs from the Cabinet Office’s IT infrastructure to Splunk.
• Work alongside IT Operations to configure logging on IT infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, servers, endpoints, Active Directory) and send this to Splunk.
• Work alongside Security Engineering to configure Splunk Cloud to receive logs from IT infrastructure and ensure that these are appropriately parsed, enriched, and stored.
• Create and maintain operational documentation.
• Share knowledge and collaborate with the wider Cyber Security and IT Operations functions.

Essential:

• An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.
• Experience administering Enterprise IT infrastructure such as firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, Windows and Linux devices, and Microsoft Active Directory.
• Experience with Splunk Cloud.
• An understanding of network security.
• Have a systematic and structured approach to solving problems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
