We are looking to appoint a creative and dynamic leader in cyber security as Professor within the established and well-recognised Cyber Technology Institute in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media.

Cyber Technology Institute

In 2019, the CTI was recognised as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research by EPSRC and the NCSC. The CTI’s specialisation areas include incident response, privacy, and industrial control system security, as Airbus’ only Centre of Excellence in SCADA Security. Its Industrial Advisory group consists of Airbus, BT, Rolls Royce, Deloitte UK. Deloitte has contributed to a training Security Operations Centre as the latest addition to CTI specialist laboratories.

Faculty / Directorate

The School of Computer Science and Informatics offers many courses, including an NCSC accredited MSc in Cyber Security and a new MSc in Digital Forensics, CPD, undergraduate and apprenticeship programmes in this area. The CTI provided 2 out of 5 impact case studies for REF 2021. Computer Science at DMU is ranked 201-300 worldwide (18th in UK) in the Shanghai Ranking, and 301-400 in the THES World University Rankings. Other Research Institutes in the School offer synergy and collaboration. The Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility is a world leader in responsible research and innovation, and ethics of computing. The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is a world leader in fuzzy logic, grey systems, and optimisation.

Role

We have identified two strategic areas in which we would like to appoint research leaders – though we also invite candidates in areas with comparable strategic potential. Digital Twins: Cyber security in Industry 4.0 and CNI depends critically on opportunities for realistic simulation that allows stakeholders to learn from “digital twins” in the cyber security sphere. This theme would build on our existing research and infrastructure, such as the CyRan cyber range, the training SOC, and research in cyber security gamification. Secure Commerce is the second area, aiming at the NSCS target of making “the UK the safest place for business online”. Our expertise on impact assessment and cryptography-based security services provides basis for this, we aim for practical impact through innovation and enterprise.

Ideal Candidate

You will need strong leadership skills and initiative, strength in building links with stakeholders (industry, government, academia), with a track record in income generation and academic publications or comparable industry-based research.
