The CompanyThe role is primarily that of a Production DBA in a team of two in a large, complex, challenging and occasionally stressful environment covering over 350 business systems. The databases are managed on a SQL Server dedicated infrastructure comprising mainly of highly consolidated multi-subnet Availability Groups running on VMWare virtual machines. The majority of the infrastructure currently runs on SQL Server 2014 EE, but all currently supported versions – 2012 to 2019 – are used.The RoleYou role will involve;

• Patching and security upgrades
• Database and server security
• High availability and disaster recovery
• Compliance with Cyber Essentials +, GDPR and domain specific data security
• Interactions and relationships with other technical departments and third parties
• Troubleshooting performance and availability issues and recommending appropriate resolutions and fixes

The PersonWe are looking for a motivated and resourceful individual with a strong core technical skill set and passion to learn.As such, key requirements are;

• Very good Technical Understanding of SQL Server in an appropriate role
• Good understanding of SQL Server Security Model and Security Good Practice in general
• Familiarity with effective Security Management practices (NCSC recommended practice, SQL Server specific security issues)
• Have hands on experience of monitoring and tuning databases to optimise availability of service and troubleshoot performance issues
• Be able to effectively, competently and professionally manage system rollouts and upgrades while simultaneously managing expectations of involved parties
• Able to carry out Patching and Security updates on High Availability infrastructure – generally out of hours
• Ideally familiarity with Compliance and System management processes such as Cyber Essentials +, ITIL

The role is based out of offices just north of Newcastle city centre and will allow for hybrid working, ideally 2 days/week in the office. There is an excellent benefits package along with salary of up to £44,000 on offer.
