The Opportunity

We have an exciting vacancy to help develop our new Secure Data Science Infrastructure supporting users needing compute and storage and leveraging state of the art GPU resources in a secure and scalable manner. We are looking for the right person to join our team to help us establish and run this state-of-the-art facility. Working closely with our existing team delivering environments for novel research projects with all areas of the university and beyond.

We are looking for a self-motivated and well-organised team player to join the Storage and Virtualisation team – part of the forward thinking and progressive Technical Infrastructure Group at the heart of a top UK University.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with innovative technology, learn, grow, and advance in the fields of virtualisation and Cyber security. You will be using the latest hardware, virtualisation, and advanced security technologies. We leverage Virtual Desktop Infrastructure solutions accessing PB scale storage and shaping the solutions offered to meet the research needs in a secure environment for our world class research.

Candidates will have a keen and active interest in IT Security, gained working with technologies such as VMWare, SAN (Storage Area Network), Scripting and systems administration, software virtualisation, along with an ability to manage and respond to complex systems and security requirements. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to IT security practices at the highest levels in previous roles. It is essential you can attain and maintain UK government security clearance.

This is an indefinite; Full time role and we welcome applications from people in all diversity groups. The successful applicant will have opportunities to complete training and an apprenticeship.

Major Duties:

1. Practitioner experience of the following technologies: VMware, Windows system administration and Windows or Unix Scripting languages
2. Up-to-date experience of Server management in a VMware or Hypervisor environment.
3. Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills with a successful record of accomplishment. Adaptability and resourcefulness in meeting conflicting demands and priorities.
4. Highly capable professional who has demonstrated aptitude for working in a team-based, support-oriented IT operation.
5. Excellent communication skills (presentational, written and verbal) with an ability to explain technical issues clearly in documents and directly to users.
6. Willing to complete further studies including the option of an apprenticeship in Systems infrastructure.
7. It is essential any candidate is able to attain UK government security clearance.
