Cyber Security Managers also known as IT Security Managers have all the expertise in cyber security protection, response, detection, and recovery. The responsibilities of a Cyber Security Manager might vary depending on the size of the organization. 

As a Cyber Security Manager for a smaller organization, you may be allowed to take up all the tasks from setting security policy to managing the technical aspects of security. But, in a larger organization, the role of the Cyber Security Manager may be categorized into below 2 types:

  • A technical security manager: You would be in charge of security systems, such as firewalls, patching, data protection controls, vulnerability scanning, encryption, pen testing, etc in the Cyber Security Jobs. Also, you might be allowed to take care of managing the team that oversees the proper configuration, deployment, and functioning of these systems. 
  • A program security manager: You might be strategically working in a role that would see you engaged in the world of risk management and mitigation. The job roles carry examining vendor contracts or terms of service, evaluating vendor risk. You might be explaining the third-party risk and data privacy issues, and more to the other teams associated with the project.

What does a Cyber Security Manager do?

The key responsibilities of a Cyber Security Manager are as follows:

  • He/she is involved in monitoring all operations and infrastructure. It could be managed individually or with a team. Majorly, going through alerts and logs is the basic work carried out daily.
  • Cyber Security Manager maintains all security tools and technology. The same applies with the team work or sole responsibility, depending on the size of organization.
  • Another task is monitoring internal and external policy compliance. This involves ensuring that the vendor and employees understand your cyber security risk management policies. You may also explain the operation within that framework.
  • The Cyber Security Manager is the living embodiment of policy, but may or may not be in charge of enforcement.
  • Monitoring regulation compliance is another key aspect handled by the Manager. This is said to be critical if he/she is handling organization related data such as health care data, credit card information, , or other personally identifiable information.
